SLC DATA VALIDATION

The data in each Polygon Attribute File, Soil Landscape Component File and Soil Carbon Layer File have been checked for integrity and completeness independently and in relation to each other. Soil development, parent material mode of deposition, local surface form and slope have been manually correlated across map sheet boundaries.

Attribute Discrepancies

Minor discrepancies have been noted between class values, particularly soil texture of parent material, recorded in the Dominant Soil Landscape file and those recorded in the Soil Carbon Layer file. These differences are explained in part by the fact that texture in the map symbol representes a grouping of texture classes of the parent material (or C horizon). Alternatively, the carbon soil layer file texture class usually indicates the weighted average of a layer comprised of at least two subsurface horizons of a named soil. The actual differences in soil particle size between the texture class grouping and the layer texture class are usually not significant.

There are also occasional discrepancies for other attributes (soil development, parent material deposition, etc.) between files. Most of these differences are due to corrections made to the original files during the more recent compilation of the component file. In cases where discrepancies occur, the data in the Soil Landscape Component File should be used.
