Surface Material
These data are presented as a set of components within each
polygon. The following attributes are included:
Name | Description |

CMP | Component Number (arbitrary) |
PERCENT | Percent of polygon occupied by the component |
MATERIAL | Surface Material |
Surface material includes the abiotic material at the earth's surface. The following table shows the class definitions that are used.
Code | Class | Description |
---|---|---|
IC | ICE and SNOW | Glacial ice and permanent snow |
OR | ORGANIC SOIL | Contains > 30% organic matter as measured by weight |
RO | ROCK | Rock undifferentiated |
SO | MINERAL SOIL | Predominantly mineral particles: contains < 30% organic matter as measured by weight |
UR | URBAN | Urban areas. Note that only a few major urban area polygons are included on SLC source maps, therefore, do not use for tabulating total urban coverage |
